Diet & Nutrition

We believe that staying active and eating a balanced diet is the key to good health. Managing your nutrition well helps your body cope with ongoing illness, maintain good health, have more energy for work and deal with stress better. Eating the right foods lowers your chances of developing high blood sugar, high blood pressure, kidney ailment, heart disease and stroke. Fortunately, a balanced diet that contains the 6 essential nutrients, is often sufficient enough to meet your needs:

Carbohydrates are the primary source of fuel for your body and lets your body use protein and fat for their necessary requirements. It prevents ketosis, it provides fibre, and it's the source of sweetness in your foods.
Protein is an essential nutrient which helps blood clotting, fluid balance, and enzyme and hormone production in your body. Protein deficiency can result in death.
Dietary fat does not mean body fat and is required for energy, for maintenance of healthy skin and for regulation of cholesterol metabolism.
Vitamins are needed for normal function, growth, and maintenance of body tissues. Without a sufficient quantity of any vitamin, a deficiency will lead to decline in health.
Minerals are another component in a healthy diet. The major minerals are calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium, chloride, and sulphur. The trace minerals are iodine, iron, zinc, selenium, fluoride, chromium, and copper.
Water is required to replace fluid losses that occur continuously in our body from skin evaporation, breathing, urine, and stool, in order to maintain good health.

Complete nutrition requires the consumption and absorption of adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals, essential amino acids from protein, essential fatty acids from dietary fat and food energy from carbohydrates, protein, fat and water. Calories provide the energy that our bodies need to function and keep us moving.
